01.Studio Philosophy
Our approach to architecture begins with understanding the challenge behind every project. By carefully analysing site conditions, planning requirements, budget constraints, and client aspirations, we develop design solutions that are both creative and practical.

The studio was founded by James Walker and David Chen, architects who share a strong commitment to contributing positively to the built environment of their city and the wider region.
With over 50 years of combined experience in architecture, design, and project management, the founders bring a deep understanding of construction, planning, and design development.
The studio team is energetic, collaborative, and internationally minded. Working alongside trusted consultants and specialists, the team delivers projects ranging from private residences to commercial developments locally and occasionally overseas.
03. Process
Understanding the vision
Every project begins with listening. During the briefing stage we work closely with clients to understand their goals, site conditions, budget, and timeline. By clearly defining the project requirements and opportunities, we establish a strong foundation that guides the design process and ensures the final outcome reflects both the client's aspirations and the realities of the site.
Exploring possibilities
With a clear brief in hand, we begin exploring design options. This stage involves sketching, modelling, and testing ideas to find the right architectural response. We consider form, materiality, spatial relationships, and how the building will sit within its environment.
Refining the details
Once a concept is agreed upon, we develop it into a comprehensive design. This includes detailed drawings, specifications, and coordination with engineers and consultants. Every element is carefully considered to ensure the design can be built effectively and efficiently.
Bringing it to life
During construction, we work closely with builders and contractors to ensure the design intent is realised. Regular site visits and ongoing communication help resolve issues quickly and maintain quality throughout the build process.
